STATUS: Full-time and part-time seasonal positions (March – October)
Jamie’s Whaling Station Ltd has been in operation for over 35 years. We have locations in both Tofino & Ucluelet and are proud to offer whale, bear, hot springs cove, kayaking, cultural canoe, and water taxi tours/services.
Our fleet includes a mix of vessels including the adventurous Zodiac-style (RHIBs) as well as Covered Cruisers.
Our 60 Ton Masters' main focus is safety & security of the vessel. The master is in command of the ship and must thoroughly and concisely relay pertinent information to the crew on board. Basic maintenance and an understanding of the engines and mechanical & safety equipment on board is essential.
Must have a solid foundation and confidence in the ever-changing marine environment. Knowledge and firsthand experience of the local geography and wildlife is an asset. Passion and personality are also key attributes for this fast pace role, all the while keeping safety standards as the utmost priority.
You are responsible for the safe operation of your vessel as well as the compliment of crew and passengers at all times.
Ensuring all supplies and materials are assembled before your tour departs, this includes but is not limited to fuel, oil, emergency equipment checked. Updating vessel log, staying in touch with office via VHF, monitoring marine weather, local hazards and a constant alertness of your surroundings. Must be able to lead bi-weekly Fire and Safety Drills. Ensure that all marine, environmental, and wildlife viewing guidelines are being met and or exceeded. Adhere to our dress code/uniform.
