Over 40 west coast residents make up our staff team of professionals each year. We prioritize extensive certification and training for our crew and believe that safety is a daily practice. Our crew members are ticketed with SVOP, Marine First Aid, GMDSS radio operations, Marine Emergency Duties, naturalist certificates and extensive experience & training on local waters. In addition, our larger vessel operators all operate under minimum 60 tonne Masters and Restricted Engineer’s tickets.

We also hire seasonal staff each year - particularly for the summer months. Hiring for the 2018 season - Captains (60 GT Master Limited) and Adventure Assistant (Front Desk)

We are currently looking for great people to join our Jamie's family for the 2018 season. We are looking for hard-working wildlife lovers and adventurers from all backgrounds. Come and make Tofino or Ucluelet your home for the season, and share this beautiful area and the amazing wildlife with us.

Our regular Whale and wildlife viewing season starts March 1st, and ends October 31st. We give preference to those who are able to commit to an entire season, but are reasonably flexible with start/end dates.

Fluency in english is a must, and additional languages are helpful.

60 GT Masters Limited require a minimum of 2 years prior experience (though extensive training of the company vessels and area is provided). See requirements to join our marine excusrions team below:

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Our vessel operators’ primary role is the safe operation of vessels.
  • Ensuring the comfort of all passengers is at the forefront of each tour, while creating a memorable experience through education, local knowledge and engaging discussions with our guests.
  • Basic maintenance and an understanding of mechanical & safety equipment on board is essential.
  • Must have a solid foundation and confidence in the ever-changing marine environment on the west coast.
  • Knowledge and firsthand experience of the local geography and wildlife is an asset.
  • Passion and personality are key attributes for this fast paced role, with a commitment to safety standards as the utmost priority.

REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS (60 GT Master Limited* please do not apply if you do not have the following):

  • Master Limited 60 Ton certificate
  • SVMO or be a candidate for SVMO-R (already successful completion of written exam)
  • Marine Emergency Duties A-2 (MED A-2)
  • Radio Operators Certificate Marine (ROC-MC)
  • Marine Basic First Aid
  • Seafarers Medical

*Candidates must have a minimum of 2 years prior experience to be accepted for an interview.

Adventure Assistant (Front Desk) (May- September)

An adventure assistant is the first person of contact for guests. Whether in person or by phone, they answer all questions, concerns and act on special requests. They provide polite, professional customer service for all guests before and after tours. They provide all information regarding our tours and availability, and complete reservations for upcoming visitors.

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Passion and personality are key attributes for this role, with a focus on providing the best possible service to our guests.
  • Guest check-ins, reservations, and suit-up for tours in person, by phone, or via email.
  • Handling of cash and other payment methods, as well as completing cash-out reports at shift end.
  • Maintain open communication within different departments
  • Knowledge and firsthand experience of the local geography and wildlife is an asset.
  • Cleaning duties and check-list completion
