Zodiac Bear Watching in Ucluelet

If you’re looking to experience a fast-paced and exciting excursion in search of black bears, join us on one of our fast-paced Zodiac tours through the waters of Barkley Sound.

Starting in April once the Black Bears start to emerge from their winter dens, we depart daily at low tide to travel through Barkley Sound along the rocky coastline as the bears roam out of the rainforest and onto the shores to forage for food. Abundant in Barkley Sound, Black Bears are often seen turning massive rocks in search of crabs and clams.

Cruising through these scenic passageways allows for many opportunities to view other wildlife like Sea Lions, Seals, Eagles, and more in their natural habitat. Throughout your tour, our informative and personable crew will keep you entertained with interesting and fun facts about wildlife and the surrounding area.

Great experience

The bear watching was in a Zodiac boat, so fast and breezy. Our guide was really informative, pointing out wildlife and providing plenty of detail about it. He also told us loads about Ucluelet past and present. We cruised through the Broken Group of Islands, hundreds of small islands, which would be a great boat trip even without the bears, it’s really beautiful. We saw several bears, including cute cubs, as well as loads of eagles.

Amazing Experience

We used Jamies for a bear watching experience and had one of the most memorable experiences ever. It was a very early start (6am) at the station but worth it when you get to see black bears in their natural environment and we were fortunate to see three, one including her cub. When the engines are turned off and you drift along the shoreline the peace, quiet and vistas are spine-tingling. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and proud of his environment. After the peace and quiet and the thrill of seeing bears, our guide gave us a thrill of a trip back by driving the Zodiac back at full speed. WOW!! If you can this is a must trip.

Bear watching and a whole lot more - fantastic!

We booked a bear watching by boat tour in a zodiac rigid inflatable boat and we got a whole lot more. The guide took us to see bears feeding on the shoreline and we got really close to a mother and cubs. That would have been enough in its self but we saw a whole lot more including Racoons, Pine Marten, Seals, Belted Kingfisher and more bald eagles than you could shake a stick at. We learned about the geology and the forest as well as the ecology of the countryside in our 3-hour tour. The whole experience was fantastic. Whilst in BC we took 2 of these Zodiac adventures, both good, but without question, this was the most professionally run. They took safety more seriously, had better equipment and the office was better organized.
